Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about how Manny's Recycling works. No fine print, no surprises.
Is it really free?
Yes. Completely free, always. No fees, no membership, no catch. We're a non-profit community service run by locals who want to keep recyclables out of landfill. Drop your stuff and drive away – that's it.
What can I drop off?
All household recyclables. Glass bottles and jars, plastic containers (all numbers), cardboard, paper, metal cans and tins, e-waste (old electronics, cables, batteries), whiteware (fridges, washing machines), soft plastics, and polystyrene. If it's recyclable, we take it. See our full list for details.
When are you open?
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The drop-off is unstaffed – just pull up to the kerb at 53A Donovan Street, place your items beside the stone wall, and go. Come at 3am if that works for you.
Do I need to sort my recycling?
No. Just drop everything together. Our volunteers sort through it all and send each material type to the right facility. You don't need to separate glass from plastic or flatten your cardboard – just bring it.
What happens to my recycling after I drop it off?
Volunteers sort everything by material type, then deliver it to appropriate recycling facilities. Glass goes to glass recyclers, cardboard and paper to pulping mills, e-waste to specialist electronics processors, and metals to scrap recyclers. Read our Where It Goes page for the full breakdown.
Is there someone there to help?
The drop-off is unstaffed – it's a kerbside point, not a staffed facility. If you need directions or have questions, contact us and we'll get back to you quickly.
What if I have a lot of stuff?
Bring it. There's no limit – whether it's a single bag or a carload after a big cleanout, we'll take it. If you're dropping off something especially large (like a fridge or couch), just leave it beside the stone wall and we'll handle the rest.
What don't you take?
We don't take hazardous waste: chemicals, paint, gas bottles, asbestos, medical waste, or tyres. Those need specialist disposal – check the Auckland Council hazardous waste page for drop-off options.
Where exactly is the drop-off?
53A Donovan Street, Blockhouse Bay, Auckland 0600. Pull up to the kerb and you'll see the stone wall. Place your items beside it. That's it.
Who runs Manny's Recycling?
Blockhouse Bay locals. We're a small non-profit community service, not a business. Volunteers keep everything running – sorting, transporting, and maintaining the drop-off.
Can I volunteer?
Absolutely. We're always looking for people who want to help. Check our Careers & Volunteering page and drop us an email at [email protected].
